SSC Combined Matric Level Examination (Main)
INTRODUCTION MODEL QUESTION PAPER WITH ANSWERS Purpose:Staff Selection Commission conducts the Matric Graduate Level Examination for recruitment of Lower Divisional Clerks (LDC) and Stenographers Grade ‘D’ & ‘C’ for the various cadres in the Central Government Services. The exam is conducted in three phases. In the first phase preliminary exam is held, which is followed by main exam and skill test. Those who qualify prelims are admitted for the main exam and those getting through the mains get to take the skill test.
Eligibility:Candidates who pass the Preliminary Exam are eligible to appear in the Main Examination. They have to apply again to SSC for the Main Exam in the detailed application form, the format of which is published in the Employment News.
Pattern: The main examination consists of written test of conventional type and is different for LDCs Steno Gr ‘D’ and Steno Gr ‘C’. In case of LDCs there is only one written test of two hours duration. The paper is divided into three parts and contains questions on General English, General Studies and Arithmetic. The last two parts are both in Hindi and English. Those who qualify the mains are called for skill test. Candidates are allowed to take the typing test wither in Hindi or in English. Those who qualify the test with the prescribed speed are recommended for appointment by SSC. Steno Gr ‘D’ also have only one written paper of two hours duration. The paper is divided into two parts and contains questions on General Studies and Language Comprehension. Candidate can take the exam either in Hindi or in English. Those who qualify the mains are called for skill test, which comprises of a shorthand test, either in Hindi or in English. The candidate is given dictation, for 10 minutes, at a speed of 80 words per minute and then required to transcribe the matter in 65 minutes if the dictation was taken in English and in 75 minutes if the dictation was taken in Hindi. Steno Gr ‘C’ have two papers, each of two hours duration. The first paper is divided into two parts and contains questions on General English and General Studies. In the second paper candidates are required to write essays on two of the given topics. The second paper as well as Part ‘B’ of the first paper can be attempted either in Hindi or in English. Those who qualify the mains are called for skill test, which comprises of a shorthand test, either in Hindi or in English. The candidate is given dictation, for 10 minutes, at a speed of 100 words per minute and then required to transcribe the matter in 50 minutes if the dictation was taken in English and in 65 minutes if the dictation was taken in Hindi. The prescribed age limits are 18 and 27 years as on 1st August of the year of exam. Age relaxation is admissible to various categories as per the government rules; such and other details are available in the notification of the exam published by SSC in the Employment News.
Pattern: The preliminary exam consists of only one paper of 2 hours duration. The paper is divided into two parts and contains 200 objective type multiple-choice questions. The first part contains 100 questions on general intelligence and the second part contains 100 questions on general awareness. Question paper is set in both English and Hindi. The preliminary exam is held somewhere around May. Those attaining the minimum qualifying marks, fixed by the Commission, are eligible to take the main examination. |
