Special Class Railway Apprentice Examination (SCRA)

Introduction                                                                                                                                                 SYLLABUS

 

Purpose:

UPSC conducts an All India Examination for recruitment of Special Class Apprentices in the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers.

 

Eligibility:

Candidates must have passed the Intermediate or Higher Secondary examination under 10+2 pattern in 1st or 2nd division with maths and physics or chemistry. The permissible age limits are 17 and 21 years as on 1st August of the year of examination. Relaxation in age and qualification is admissible in for special categories like SC/ST etc.

 

Pattern:

The examination comprises of a written test followed and by a personality test for those who are able to qualify the written test. The written test is objective type (multiple choice) and carries a maximum of 600 marks. It comprises of 3 papers of 2 hours duration each. The first paper is on General Ability and contains 120 questions on English, General Knowledge as well as Psychology to judge the mental makeup and intelligence of the candidate. The second paper is on physical sciences and contains 60 questions each on Physics and Chemistry. The third paper is on mathematics and contains 120 questions. The questions are set in English only. Those who qualify the written test are called for interview. The written exam is held around December in about 40 centres. The exam is notified generally by June with the last date of submission of application forms somewhere in July.
