National Eligibility Test (ASRB)

Introduction

Purpose:

The Agriculture Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB) conducts National Eligibility Test (NET) every year in October for recruitment of Lecturers and Assistant Professors by the State Agricultural Universities and for award of ICAR Senior Research Fellowships. The candidates clearing the NET are recommended to various State Agriculture Universities, who consider them for appointment as Lecturers. For Senior Research Fellowship, the Education Division of ICAR prepares a merit list. In preparation of the merit list 60% weightage is given to the performance in NET, and 20% each on academic performance and viva-voce.

Eligibility:

Candidates who have secured a minimum of 55% marks at post graduation, in any of the specified subjects mentioned in the syllabus of the examination, are eligible for taking the exam. Minimum age is 21 years and the upper age limit for JRF is 30 years, which is relaxable by 5years for females, SC/ST/OBC and physically handicapped candidates. 3 years age relaxation is also given to the candidates possessing LLM degree. There is no upper age limit for Lecturereship.

Pattern:

The test, consisting of three papers, is held in October every year. The first paper is of general nature intended to assess the aptitude of the candidate in research or teaching. Second and the third papers are subject based. First and second papers are objective and the third paper is descriptive. Selection of a Senior Research Fellow would depend upon the aggregate marks obtained in the written test, viva-voce and for academic performance. The syllabus for the subject papers broadly conforms to the postgraduate level. The examination is notified in May and the completed application forms are required to be submitted to the Secretary, ASRB, Krishi Anusandhan Bhawan, New Delhi by the end of June.
