Indian Statistical Services - ISSIntroduction SYLLABUS Purpose:UPSC
recruits Grade IV officers for the Indian Statistical Service through
competitive examination at selected centres. ISS is a Central Government
Service, which contributes significantly in economic planning and analysis
through state boards, planning commission, and other government owned
bodies in the country.
Eligibility:Applicants should be postgraduates in Statistics, Mathematical Statistics or Applied Statistics Economics, Applied Economics, Business Economics or Econometrics and in the age group of 21-30 years as on 1st January of the year of examination.
Pattern: There is a written examination followed by an interview. The written examination is divided into two parts. First part comprises of two papers of 3 hours each on English and General Studies. The second part comprises of 4 papers, also of 3 hours each, on Statistics. The written examination of 1000 marks and interview carries 200 marks. The examination is notified in March every year and held around September.
