Indian Economic Services - IES

Introduction                                                                                         SYLLABUS

 

Purpose:

UPSC recruits Grade IV officers for the Indian Economic Service through competitive examination at selected centres.  IES is a Central Government Service, which is involved, in economic planning and analysis through state boards, planning commission, financial organizations and other government owned bodies in the country.

 

Eligibility:

Applicants should be postgraduates in Economics, Applied Economics, Business Economics or Econometrics and in the age group of 21-30 years as on 1st January of the year of examination.

 

Pattern:

There is a written examination followed by an interview. The written examination is divided into two parts. First part comprises of two papers of 3 hours each on English and General Studies. The second part comprises of 3 papers, also of 3 hours each, on general Economics and one paper on Indian economics. The papers are a both objective as well as descriptive type. The written examination of 1000 marks and interview carries 200 marks.  The examination is notified in March every year and held around September.
