Central Board Of Secondary Education (CBSE) - PMT

INTRODUCTION                         SYLLABUS    MODEL  QUESTION PAPER WITH ANSWERS

 

Purpose:

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) New Delhi conducts an All India Entrance Examination for admission in 15% of the seats in all Medical and Dental colleges in India, except in states of Andhra Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, which are run by government/municipal or local authorities There are some 83 medical and 42 dental colleges which fall in this category. The MBBS and BDS courses are of 51/2 years and 5 years duration respectively, which is inclusive of 1 year of internship. A merit list of around 2000 candidates is drawn and colleges are allotted on the basis of the position in the merit list and preference given.

 

Eligibility:

Candidates who have passed 10+2, or its equivalent examination, with 50% marks (40% for SC/ST) in physics, chemistry and biology are eligible to take the exam. Minimum age limit is 17 years on 31st December of the admission year. A student appearing in 10+2 final examination or its equivalent is also eligible to sit for exam. However if selected, the admission is treated as provisional, till proof of having passed the qualifying examination (10+2 or equivalent) is submitted.

 

Pattern:

The entrance test comprises of only one paper of 21/2 hours duration. The question paper contains 200 objective type questions of 4 marks each, on physics, chemistry and biology. There is negative marking and one mark is deducted for every wrong answer.

The examination is notified in December /January and held around May. Application forms are available for Rs 200 in notified branches of schedule banks, post offices and CBSE regional centres. Completed application forms should reach CBSE by February. Results are declared by July. The exam is held in around 25 cities around the country. The level of competition is extremely high and can be gauged from the fact that the number of candidates who finally make it varies between 5-10% of the number that takes the exam.
