Description:
Textile
Engineers are trained to work in three major areas, namely research and
development, production and quality control and sales and customer service. In
the area of research and development they study natural, manufactured and
synthetic fibres and work towards development or modification of production
machinery and application of new technology to solve problems. Textile research
involves development of new textiles suitable for specified purposes and
inventing new uses for existing textiles.
In the area of
production and quality control work involves handling and supervising
manufacturing procedures like spinning, weaving, knitting, bonding, dyeing and
finishing. The engineers/technologists test fibres for heat resistance, crease
resilience and laundering durability. The process of manufacturing would also
include packaging, storage and delivery. Quality control job encompasses
product inspection for ensuring compliance of specifications.
In the area of
customer sales and service the textile technologist helps in translating
customer needs for the research and development department for meeting customer
requirement.
