Description:
Probation is a
trial period, when an offender is released, on condition that he would not get
involved in any further criminal activity. The job of a Probation Officer is to
counsel them to regain a positive frame of mind, so that the released criminals
become socially responsible and economically independent citizens of the
country. Social Workers specialising in the area of Criminology and
Correctional Administration (CCA) which is anew area, are trained in
correctional work and deal with adults and juvenile offenders in institutions
like prisons, reformatories and remand homes.
Educational
Qualification:
Graduate in Law,
Sociology and Psychology Selected through Combined State Public Services
Written Examinations followed by an Interview.
Opening:
There are big
openings for Probation Officers in most government departments. They can rise
up to the position of Prison DIG and Director. After getting sufficient
experience one can work as a consultant.
Remuneration:
Starting salary
is Rs. 5,500 per month (excluding other allowances)
