Community Social Workers

Job Description:

Social workers specialising in this area, work with groups having common problems, like that of poor housing facilities, lack of local facilities, eviction and displacement etc. They work within the administrative framework and jobs are provided by the agencies, operated by government, municipalities, national/international voluntary organizations.

Educational Qualification:

Graduate (BSW) / Postgraduate (MSW) in Social Work. Also refer to the introduction to Social Work.

Opening:

The job opportunities are available in Government Sector, Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) and National /International Voluntary Agencies. The Central and the State governments recruit Welfare Officers, through Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and State Public Service Commissions. Career openings also exist in national level bodies like Central Social Welfare Board (CSWB) and National Institute of Public Co-operation & Child Development (NIPCD). Industries also employ Labour Welfare Officers.

Remuneration:

Starting salary is Rs. 5,500 per month (excluding other allowances)
