Job Description:
They work with patients suffering from physical
impairments or mental disorders (spastics). They help such people improve their
ability to perform tasks in their daily living and working environments and
also to regain as much normalcy and independence as possible. Occupational
therapists may also design or make special equipment needed at home or at work
for patients with permanent functional disability, due to spinal injury,
cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy. Their goal is to help patients have independent,
productive, and satisfying lives.
Educational Qualification:
A large number of institutes in India offer courses
in Occupational Therapy. The Rehabilitation Council of India conducts a joint
entrance examination for admission to the first year of the professional
courses in Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. These courses are available
as B.Sc courses of three and a half years' duration at the National Institute
of Rehabilitation Training and Research, Cuttack and the National Institute of
the Orthopaedically Handicapped situated in Calcutta.

Opening:
They can work in hospitals, clinics, private nursing
homes, public health organizations, research institutions, pharmaceutical

Remuneration:
Starting salary is Rs. 6,500 per month (excluding other
allowances)
