The IPS
Officers are responsible for internal security, public safety and maintenance
of law and order. The various functional branches, related to security, where
these officers work include the crime branch, investigation department (CID)
and traffic police. They also work with the various central police
organizations viz., BSF, CRPF, ITBP and CISF. On central deputation they also
come to organizations like the Intelligence Bureau and other security
organizations under the Cabinet Secretariat like the Special Protection Group
(SPG) meant for providing proximate security to the Prime Minister. On
completion of probation a IPS begins his career as a Assistant Superintendent
of Police of a sub-division.
Educational Qualification:
Graduates
in any discipline and selected through the Civil Services Examination,
conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

Remuneration:
Starting salary is Rs. 13,000 per month
(excluding other allowances)
