Air Traffic Controllers (ATC)
Job Description:
The
air traffic control system is a vast network of people and equipment that
ensures the safe operation of commercial and private aircraft. Air traffic
controllers coordinate the movement of air traffic to make certain that planes
stay a safe distance apart. Their immediate concern is safety, but controllers
also must direct planes efficiently to minize delays. Some regulate airport
traffic; others regulate flights between airports. They also provide inputs to
the pilots on weather and other conditions in order to maintain safe and
orderly flow of traffic both in the air as well as on the ground. After each
plane departs, airport tower controllers notify enroute controllers who will
next take charge.
Educational Qualification:
A
degree in electronics or telecommunication engineering. ATCOs, once they are
selected, have to undergo rigorous training at the Civil Aviation Training
Centre in Allahabad. On completion of the training they appear before a rating
board before being appointed in one of the four sections viz. control tower,
radar, aircraft control and flight information service, of the Air Traffic
Control Tower.
