Job Description:
Technical Officers handle Engineering and Weapon
systems of the Air Force. The Aeronautical Engineers (Mechanical) ensure
the proper maintenance of all types of Aircrafts. Aeronautical Engineers
(Electronics) handle Electronics and Communication Equipment in Aircraft. Opportunities
are open for Women candidates to serve as a Technical Officer. Technical
Officers have to undergo one year training period at Indian Military Academy,
Dehradun.

A)
Aeronautical Engineers (Electronics)
(i) Type of Entry - Direct Entry Scheme
(ii) Mode of Selection - Through UPSC examination and it is mandatory to clear a Screening
Test based on Engineering knowledge prior to attending the AFSB tests.

Newspapers/Employment News twice in year in the months of January and July.
(iv) Status Awarded - Technical Officer in Air Force.
B)
Aeronautical Engineers (Mechanical)
(i) Type of Entry - Direct Entry Scheme
(ii) Mode of Selection - Through Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and getting
through AFSB after clearing the screening test based on Engineering knowledge.

(iv) Status Awarded - Technical Officer in Air Force.
Technical Officer
(University Entry Scheme)
Under this scheme the candidates are selected to join the
Aeronautical Engineering Branches (Similar to those specified in the direct
entry scheme). They must be aging between 18 to 24 years. Candidates granted
Permanent or Short Service Commission while they are in the Pre-final/final
year of their study in the Engineering Colleges. The selected candidates are
paid a stipend equivalent to the basic pay of Flying Officer for Permanent
Commission during their final Year’s study in the College. Candidates selected
for Short Service commission are also entitled to a stipend equivalent to half
of the basic pay of a Flying Officer.

A)
Aeronautical Engineers (Electronics)
(i) Academics - Engineering Degree in Electronics / Tele
Communication / Electrical / Electrical Communication / Electronics and
Communication / Computer Science and Engineering. OR
A
combination of these subjects OR
B.Tech
in Radio Physics and Electronics of Calcutta University OR
B.Sc.
Physics with Electronics of Bombay University OR
M.Sc.
Electronics of Delhi, Bangalore, Madras, Gujrat, Lucknow Or Calcutta University
OR
B.Sc.
with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry and must have passed one of the AMIE or
equivalent qualification in Electronics / Electrical / Tele Communication,
Radio Engineering / Avionics / Associate Membership Examination of Aeronautical
Society of India with Avionics Communication.
(ii) Age - between 18 to 28 years.
B)
Aeronautical Engineers (Mechanical)
(i) Academics - Engineering Degree in Aeronautical /
Mechanical / Production / Industrial Production OR
B.Sc.
with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry and must have Passed section ‘A’ and
‘B’ of AMIE (I) with Mechanical/Aeronautical subjects OR
Associate
Membership Examination Part II and III of the Aeronautical Society of India
with Group I (Design and Production) or Group II (Maintenance, Repair &
Overhaul) by actual studies.
(ii) Age - between 18 to 28 years.
Note: Both categories of Aeronautical Engineers
(Electronics and Mechanical) must possess a minimum of two years practical
experience in Electronics and Mechanical discipline from a recognized
servicing/manufacturing organization.
C)
Technical Officer (University Entry Scheme)
(i) Academics - Pre-final/ Final year of Engineering OR
B.Sc.
with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry and must have passed AMIE or equivalent
qualification in Electronics/ Electrical/Tele Communication, Radio Engineering/
Avionics.
(ii) Age - between 18 to 24 years

Remuneration:
Starting salary is Rs. 8,250 (excluding other allowances
plus Technical Pay), which reaches Rs. 10,050 within 6/7 years.
Note: Short Service Commission for Women is open
since 1992. The Women are also inducted in Flying, Technical and Ground duties
in the Air Force.
All other qualifications and eligibility conditions remain the same except:
they must be unmarried. Length of Short Service Commission is up to 7 years
extendable up to 10 years.
