Coast Guards

The Indian Coast Guard is a Paramilitary force, under the Ministry of Defence, to protect the maritime and other national interests falling in our Maritime zone; ensuring safety and protection of artificial islands and off-shore installation; protection to fishermen and providing them help at times of distress like cyclone; assisting the authorities in prevention and control of smuggling and enforcing the provisions of legislation enacted for application in the maritime zone. There are three branches in Indian Coast Guard to manage the whole system. These branches are general duty branch, pilot navigator branch, technical branch.

Coast Guard offers good and secure jobs, with a number of benefits, which are not easy to come by in civilian life like semi-professional courses in search and rescue operation, pollution control and computers in addition to the facilities like paid annual leave, medical facilities, Leave travel Concession and so on like in any other armed service. The promotion prospects are also good and an Assistant Commandant on completion of 6 years of service becomes a Deputy Commandant. With 2 years of service as DCs they are promoted as Commandants and with eight years of service as DC they pick up the rank of DIG and thereafter IG in another six years.

Opening:
